A job offer is about much more than the number on your paycheck. Salary, cost of living, health insurance, retirement contributions, paid time off, bonuses, and other benefits can significantly affect what an offer is really worth. Designed for graduate students and postdocs, this workshop will take you beyond the salary number to help you understand the full value of a job offer. You’ll learn how to research competitive compensation, respond when employers ask about salary expectations, evaluate offers across different geographic locations, and develop strategies for negotiating salary and other aspects of your package. We’ll also unpack common benefits and employment terms—from 401(k) matching and health insurance to PTO and non-compete agreements—so you know what to look for before signing.
