Mentoring Future Engineers

Despite being a main aspect of their work, graduate students and postdocs are rarely given opportunities to learn and practice how to be great mentors for those in their labs and research groups. In this 3-part series, we will highlight practical communication strategies, discuss how to align expectations for a 6–10 week research timeline, and explore case studies of common challenges that arise when mentoring short-term undergraduate researchers. By the end of the workshop, participants will have concrete tools and strategies to support undergraduates’ growth while strengthening their own mentoring practice. Please note that this workshop is intended for graduate students and postdocs in the College of Engineering.
