How can we help students understand the assumptions underlying scholarly engagement with information? In this workshop, you’ll learn teaching strategies to help students engage with and evaluate information more effectively, allowing students to be more successful on research and writing assignments. These strategies apply to writing assignment in any discipline but are especially appropriate for writing-intensive courses.

Bring a tried-and-true writing assignment that you plan to use in the Spring semester, if you have it. Otherwise, you’ll have time to brainstorm a new assignment during the workshop. By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to identify some of the core information practices behind these types of assignments and learn teaching strategies that help scaffold a path to mastery for your students.
