Teaching with Current Events

Student’s often want to see the “real-world” applications of classroom material. One method of getting students thinking about these practical applications is through the use of current events in the classroom. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the benefits and challenges of using current events in one’s teaching, as well as strategies for effectively incorporating them into lesson plans. Participants will also have time to develop their own lesson using a current event, so bring a laptop, newspaper, or idea for how to connect your discipline to the world outside your classroom.
